SWSAL selects ACT to deliver a complete ITSO Turnkey Solution
25th January 2012, Chippenham (UK)

ACT (Applied Card Technologies Limited) has been selected by South West Smart Applications Ltd (SWSAL) to provide a central smart customer and card holder management system and associated ticketing services for the South West region. This fully managed solution provides smartbusiness customers with the tools to effortlessly introduce an integrated smart card ticketing and payment scheme throughout the region, delivering ITSO transport tickets, eMoney and support services across the regional bus and rail transport network.

Under the new agreement with SWSAL and South Gloucestershire Council, ACT will provide local authorities and transport operators across South West of England with the choice to effortlessly adopt the critical elements that will underpin local and regional smart ticketing solutions. The agreement enables South West England customers to opt in to a full and managed turnkey solution, sized for a large scale take up and catering for up to thirty SWSAL customers. The proven product technology includes the latest in electronic back office ticketing systems and services such as the HOPS, CMS, retail ticketing portals and its next generation Retail POST® – the first ITSO and EMV compliant retail point of sale system of its kind.

Because ACT has created a flexible intelligent ticketing transaction service, business clients can unlock the ability to have multiple ticketing schemes under the same managed service solution, ensuring the value of the overall service is greatly increased through a cost share model.

The turnkey solution was developed to help improve cardholder experience, as well as provide visibility and reporting throughout the whole transaction process. The solution also extends the reach of ticketing via retail outlets through the use of the Retail POST. As the Retail POST is ITSO compliant; customers can easily top up their card and immediately hop on a bus using the regional smart card. In addition, it is EMV compliant which means the cardholder can pay for their journey value using a credit or debit card rather than rely on cash or find the right change to pay.

The HOPS and integrated CMS by ACT is designed to meet the evolving needs of the marketplace and adheres to the latest in data security and compliance requirements whilst providing extensive data analysis, visibility and flexibility. The HOPS by ACT provides extensive connectivity to hundreds of ticket machines as the central transaction hub, while the simple to use CMS provides operators and local authorities with a sophisticated customer, card and ticket management system with details views and analysis of the card into the entire smart transaction lifecycle.

These end-to-end benefits are the reason why SWSAL adopted the full solution offered by ACT.
