Award given to Leicester school catering service
22 Nov 2011

An award has been given to Leicestershire County Council's School Food Support Service by Food for Life.

The bronze prize was presented as a result of consistently good meals being produced for pupils, the Lutterworth Mail reports.

Food for Life promotes the use of fresh, locally-sourced produce and was particularly impressed by Gilmorton School's chicken coop and vegetable patch.

The council's head of school food Wendy Philp said: "We are delighted to have received this award which is a testament to the high quality school meals we provide in Leicestershire."

Earlier this month, Fritchley Church of England Primary School won an award from Derbyshire County Council for the standard of its catering facilities, Bakewell Today reported.

Both of the authorities may benefit from introducing more cashless catering in case the awards promote a sudden spike in demand for school dinners.

The system can prevent queuing and help midday mealtimes to pass more smoothly.
