Could pub lunch encourage school to bring in dinners?
9 Dec 2011

A headteacher in Northill could be considering bringing in school dinners after her pupils enjoyed a hot meal in a pub.

Generous landlord and landlady Adrian and Victoria Doughty from The Crown invited pupils from Northill Lower School to have their Christmas lunch at the pub on Tuesday (December 6th 2011), Biggleswade Today reports.

All of the youngsters walked to the establishment and were treated to free hot food and festive party hats.

Headteacher Elizabeth Simpson said: "We don't have school dinners at Northill Lower School so we knew a hot meal would be popular with the children."

Everyone enjoyed their trip out and the event was hailed as a success by all.

However, it may have encouraged Ms Simpson to put in a system for school dinners, perhaps using cashless catering.

It could be particularly good for the pupils, as a recent study by the School Food Trust found they are typically much healthier than packed lunches.
