Chicago to pay for parking with phone
3 Apr 2012

Chicago motorists can now pay their parking fee at selected car parks in the city with their mobile phone.

A total of 14 car parks operated by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) are taking part in the new programme, which is operated by mobile parking payment specialist Parkmobile.

Drivers who sign up to the new e-money service can either pay their parking fee through the Parkmobile app - which is linked to the user's bank account - or by calling the business directly on the specific phone number shown at the car park.

CTA president Forrest Claypool told the Associated Press that the new system will improve the overall customer experience.

When calling Parkmobile, drivers will be asked to provide their licence plate number and parking space number, as well as their credit or debit card details, in order to complete the transaction.

A text will also be sent to motorists when their ticket is due to expire, offering them a chance to top up their stay without having to return to their vehicle.
