10 Apr 2012

A bank in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has teamed up with digital security specialist Gemalto to offer its customers new smart bank cards with improved payment protection.

Union National Bank (UNB) is converting its entire range of debit and credit cards to Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA) smart cards in a bid to reduce instances of fraud by detecting counterfeit and duplicate cards.

Ashraf Bibars, senior vice president and head of the retail banking group at UNB, claimed that the firm is committed to providing customers with tailored financial solutions that meet their needs.

He said: "Gemalto's EMV DDA card will further add to our customers' convenience while upholding the highest safety standards.

"Gemalto's extensive presence in the region guaranteed that their support team were always within easy reach, from project definition through to deployment."

Following the successful roll out of the cards in the UAE, UNB will begin offering the new cards to customers in Kuwait and Egypt.
