News in-depth: Carrefour unveils loyalty card in UAE
18 Apr 2012

A global hypermarket chain has launched a new loyalty card in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which will offer customers the chance to earn money-off vouchers.

Shoppers at retailer Carrefour can now pick up the 'MyCLUB' card at the checkout and begin collecting points for every dirham (dh) they spend on products in-store including food and household goods.

Cardholders will accrue a single point for every Dh10 (£1.70) they spend in Carrefour outlets, with a discount voucher worth Dh50 available to members once they accumulate 500 points.

Customers will not just benefit from discount vouchers, as offers will also be made available to members of the scheme.

Henry Changeux, Gulf cooperation council country head of Carrefour, claimed that the scheme is the first of its kind for the hypermarket sector in the Middle East.

"This programme, combined with our increasing store footprint and continued commitment to value, quality, convenience and choice, is placing Carrefour at the forefront of the retail industry in the Middle East."

Mr Changeux also revealed that the loyalty card programme was trialled at the Carrefour Market Al Fardan, Carrefour Hypermarket Century Mall and Mirdif City Centre branches at the end of last year.

After receiving positive feedback from those taking part in the pilot, Carrefour decided to roll out the initiative to all of its customers in the UAE.

Anyone over the age of 21 can apply for the Carrefour MyCLUB loyalty card free of charge, with customers restricted to one loyalty account number per household. However, multiple members of a household will be able to earn points as four loyalty cards (one main card and three smaller cards) will be issued to each member.

Carrefour is the world's second largest retailer and operates in the region through a joint venture with Majid Al Futtaim Group.
