News in-depth: New loyalty card scheme launched in Swansea
6 Mar 2012

A new loyalty card scheme has been launched in Swansea which aims to attract shoppers back to the city's high street.

The new Premier City Centre loyalty card will give holders the chance to earn discounts at a range of leading retailers in the city centre, reports the South Wales Evening Post.

Nearly 60 firms have already signed up to the scheme, which has been developed by the City & County of Swansea, the City Centre Management team, the Business Improvement District group and the newspaper.

Cardholders will accrue loyalty points at the city's restaurant, jewellers, hotels, leisure facilities and many other businesses which they can redeem for a range of money off discounts and other deals.

Daniel Jones, Swansea city centre manager, claimed that the card is designed to help town centre shops which have been affected by difficult economic conditions and competition from internet shopping sites and out-of-town retail parks.

"This loyalty card will benefit both traders and shoppers by attracting more footfall and giving people access to great discounts in a range of shops, restaurants and other businesses," he told the news provider.

"This is one of a series of projects aimed at helping our traders and raising the profile of Swansea city centre and it comes in the wake of the successful Premier City Centre campaign. I'd urge people to keep an eye on the loyalty card scheme's dedicated website to stay updated on the variety of offers that will be made available."

Among the businesses which have signed up to the scheme include include Leisure Quest, Rowberry's, Madam Foner, Brian Brown, The Dragon Hotel, Varsity, Revolution and Tyler Jenkins.

The loyalty card is a key part of Swansea's Premier City campaign, which is designed to highlight the role the city centre has to play in the local economy and community.
