Canada seeks to solve parking meter problems
28 Nov 2011
Officials in the Canadian city of London are looking at ways of solving problems relating to parking offences.
According to Metro News Canada, the cost of parking tickets may soon increase, as could the fine for letting a meter run over its allocated time limit.
The built and natural environment committee is currently considering a range of proposals, including upping fines by $5 (£3.11), or increasing most penalties by $10 and leaving those for expired meters unchanged.
It is hoped this could cut the number of parking fines issued by eight per cent.
The Canadian officials could consider implementing cashless parking meters, which use eMoney via contactless smart cards rather than relying on change.
It was recently reported by the Daily Targum that they are being brought in for several streets in the US state of New Jersey, while they are already in place in the Scottish city of Aberdeen.
