New transit card scheme to be rolled out across Isle of Wight buses
10 Feb 2012

A new transit card scheme is set to be rolled out across Isle of Wight buses, it has been revealed.

In an interview with the Ventnor Blog, Marc Morgan-Huws of local bus operator Southern Vectis revealed that passengers will be able to pay for their travel with the new Key smart cards in mid April.

He told the news provider: "The machines have been fitted to buses for a while now, and are reading the free travel passes.

"The card will be available to be loaded with the current 7, 30 and 90 day passes, and a new 'multi-day' pass. The multi day will offer customers an electronic book of day tickets, which can be used on any individual days of their choice."

Mr Morgan-Huws added that the multi-day pass will offer a significant discount on single cash transactions and is ideally suited to customers who travel regularly but do not want to purchase a longer pass.

Southern Vectis is part of the Go Ahead group, which is rolling out its smartcard across all its non-London bus and rail businesses.
