"sQuid and Innovate join forces to create new cashless catering solution"
12 January 2010

sQuid, the ePayments provider, has teamed up with the Innovate, the catering service provider, to deliver a simpler way for pupils to purchase their school lunches.

Innovate is a leading catering services company with a fresh approach to providing school catering.  Working with sQuid will enable truly cashless services, using a ‘smartcard’ for pupils to pay for their school meals.

The contactless sQuid smartcard is quick and easy to use, helps to reduce lunch queues and encourages more students to eat healthily at school.  It is easy to top up, with parents using the online top up facility.

“Cashless payments are the quickest and most effective way to pay for lunches in school. We are very excited about our collaboration with sQuid and are confident that this will give the school pupils a much easier and more enjoyable experience at lunchtime. We also believe it will be valued by parents who will now be able to ensure that dinner money is actually spent on decent food rather than on sweets and snacks from local shops”, said Geoff Peppiatt, Chairman at Innovate.

Wycombe High School is the first to use this new system with Innovate, with a further seven schools soon following.

Adam Smith, Managing Director at sQuid said, “We are very pleased to announce this partnership with Innovate.  sQuid is the perfect payment system for schools, and we pride ourselves on being low-cost and in tune with young people, as well as delivering real efficiencies for the schools.  Innovate delivers new thinking in catering services for schools, and we like to think we do the same in payments.  This is another example of sQuid delivering simple, up-to-date payment technologies for the benefit of our customers”.

sQuid already supplies smartcard solutions to schools in the UK, including Sheldon School and St. Augustine’s Catholic College in Wiltshire, who have been using the system for over a year. sQuid’s ePayment platform also delivers biometric and school trip payments.
